IGP Arase frees abducted Ese Oruru

Abducted 14-year-old, Ese Oruru, who was forcibly taken from her home in Opolo, Bayelsa State, to Kano and married off six months ago has been released.

It was learnt that she was freed upon the intervention of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, on Monday.

Arase had earlier in the day claimed that he could not secure Oruru’s release without the help of the Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, as he was said to be away on lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia.

However, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce representing Bayelsa East had threatened to report the IGP to the United Nations if he failed to immediately secure the abducted teenager’s release.

He also got in touch with Sanusi and demanded the immediate release of the girl, who was abducted in August 2015 by one Yunusa.

Based on pressure from Nigerians, Sanusi then directed the Kano State Sharia Commission to secure Oruru’s release.
